Value local traditions and customs

Before traveling, learn about the local customs and traditions of your destination so you can share in and connect with the community in a more meaningful way.
Learn a few words in the local language for a more meaningful connection with the community.
Respect the history, architecture, and cultural values of the place, and ask for consent before photographing churches, national monuments, or members of the community.

Support the local economy

Choose local crafts and products made at your destination, supporting family-run and small-scale economies.
Treat local vendors and artisans with respect and kindness, fostering a fair and voluntary commercial relationship.
When booking tours, choose established operators and services run by residents of the community or destination.

Respect the environment

Choose group outings and the most efficient, least polluting way to get around.
Reduce, reuse, and recycle solid waste during your trip: bring your own refillable water bottle and avoid unnecessary plastics.
Reduce your water and electricity use at the accommodations you visit.

Be mindful when visiting wilderness and heritage sites

Take your waste with you, including organic waste, so as not to affect native wildlife or the landscape.
Choose guided routes that stick to existing trails and paths to minimize impact on the landscape.
Do not feed wildlife and do not remove natural resources from their original environment.

Be an informed and respectful traveler

Comply with local and national laws and regulations, and respect human rights.
Find out how to access medical assistance or contact your embassy in case of an emergency.
If heading into the mountains, check weather conditions beforehand and register your visit with local authorities.
