Australis Cruises is nominated in the World Cruise Awards
We're honored to share that Australis has been nominated once again in the World Cruise Awards. 💙
The Andean condor is the largest flying bird in the world, and at Estancia Olga Teresa, in the district of Río Verde, a rock face serves as its roost all year round. It is the largest condor roost in Chilean Patagonia, holding an average of 40 to 50 birds.
It is just over an hour from Punta Arenas. The visit starts in the briefing room, with coffee and biscuits, where the biology and behaviour of the species are explained. We then walk less than 500 metres over flat ground to the base of the rock face.
Telescopes and binoculars are available there to watch the birds up close, and to take photographs through the telescope with your own phone or camera. The condors are seen perched on the rock, and often gliding above it.
The visit can be made at any time of day. We recommend the afternoon, when the birds return to the roost after feeding, though it is only a recommendation.
The drive combines 100 kilometres of paved road with 60 of gravel. The walk is gentle and on flat ground, suitable for anyone able to cover half a kilometre.
Published rate based on two passengers (price per person). If your group is larger than two, please contact us for custom pricing.
