A day on a Patagonian sheep ranch: shearing, sheepdogs and spit-roasted lamb

Estancia Olga Teresa lies in the district of Río Verde, 78 kilometres northwest of Punta Arenas. The land was bought in 1922 by Fermín Roca Berjoan, a pioneer of French origin who named it after his two daughters. It is still held by the same family, who opened it to visitors in 2000.
The visit includes a sheep shearing demonstration and another of the sheepdogs working the flock, two traditional trades of Magallanes sheep farming. The family hosts the visit.
The day ends with lamb roasted on the spit, the meal that defines this part of the world, served by the family themselves. Around the house there is a kilometre of paths over uneven ground, almost always windy, for exploring the surroundings.
On a hill within the same property there is a condor colony, easily reached overland. The visit can be added as an extra: please ask about the price when booking.
The drive combines 50 kilometres of paved road with 30 of gravel, each way. The service is exclusive to your group, with pick-up at your accommodation.
Price per person, based on a minimum of 7 passengers. For smaller groups, please ask for a quote.
