Australis Cruises is nominated in the World Cruise Awards
We're honored to share that Australis has been nominated once again in the World Cruise Awards. 💙
A resident colony of Peale’s dolphins lives in Agua Fresca Bay, 26 kilometres south of Punta Arenas. Resident means they are there all year: no season to wait for, no migration to catch.
We pick you up at your accommodation and drive you to the bay, at kilometre 26 south on Route 9. There we board on a rigid inflatable boat for eight people that sits low and close to the water: unlike a large vessel, it puts the dolphins at eye level.
The trip crosses the bay looking for the colony. Along the way seabirds appear, and large kelp forests, those underwater meadows you can see swaying below the surface. Peale’s dolphins tend to approach out of curiosity and follow the boat for a while.
This is wildlife watching, so nothing is guaranteed, but the colony is stable and encounters are frequent.
We recommend warm, waterproof clothing, comfortable shoes, a hat and gloves. The trip runs in an AM or PM slot, arranged when booking, and is subject to weather conditions and to authorisation from the maritime authority. Departure requires a minimum of 2 passengers.
Minimum age: 2 years. Children aged 2 to 12 pay 50% of the fare. From 13 years old, adult fare applies.
