Australis Cruises is nominated in the World Cruise Awards
We're honored to share that Australis has been nominated once again in the World Cruise Awards. 💙
A cruise designed for unhurried watching. We travel the Strait of Magellan around Cape San Isidro and its neighbouring bays, among kelp forests swaying below the surface, with sea lions, Peale’s dolphins and seabirds around the boat.
The trip is normally made in a zodiac, an inflatable boat that sits low and close to the water. That allows much closer approaches to the bays and the wildlife than a large vessel, but it also means movement throughout and exposure to wind and spray.
Mid-morning we land for a short trek between El Águila Bay and the San Isidro Lighthouse, or the other way round depending on the day’s conditions. It is a short stretch through native forest and shoreline, a chance to walk a strip of this subantarctic zone.
A snack on the beach follows, and then the sail back to Bahía Voces, from where we return overland to Punta Arenas.
We recommend warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear and protection for your camera. The route may change depending on weather conditions.
